Dismal Dubai race weekend for Trust Team Arden

Having qualified 10th and 20th on Friday morning, Trust Team Arden were in good stead for a successful afternoon race. With smooth tactics and rapid pit-stop, Sebastien Buemi made up three places during the course of the race, having fought off one of the other RedBull drivers in this Championship, Karun Chandhok. Adam Khan made steady progress throughout the race. However, having finished the race in 19th place Adam Khan was penalised for overtaking during a red flag following Herck. Despite Sebastien Buemi finishing 7th in race, his contact with Bakkerud caused damage to the chassis leading to the car not conforming with FIA regulations. Sebastien was disqualified and re-positioned to start Race 2 on Saturday from the back of the grid.

Starting from the rear of the grid Trust Team Arden aimed to work their way through the pack over course of the 42 laps on Saturday. On exit of the pit lane there was issues with Adams Khans car he was towed back to the pit lane, to begin his race from there. In the first lap, at the first corner Sebastien Buemi was involved in an incident with Herck which took off his front wing main plane and nose, pushing him into retirement. Also in this lap Adam Khan experienced a puncture and came in for a quick turn around pit stop to then finish in 15th position.

Sebastien Buemi: “My start in race one was ok, I cut through and held my place. After lap one we made our pit stop which I thought was a good idea to pit early. I suffered some debration but continued to make good time until the end. We were 5th fastest lap. Race two start was very good I managed to get infront of a lot of cars but on the exit of turn 1 Herck braked and I went on the throttle and touched and could no re-start.”

Adam Khan: “Race one was difficult. I was penalised and therefore started at the back of the grid. My main focus was the first time ive been in a GP2 race, the experience I could take from it. It would have been nice to finish higher in the rankings but I still feel it was a solid race. The team did well, a great job with pit stops. Race two was very difficult, I thought I could have been near a top 10 position. I had an overheating problem and had to start from the pit lane and with cold tyres it made it worse. Debris from the accident at the first corner punctured my tyre, so I lost a lap having to drive slowly and into the pits for a tyre change. It wasn’t a good enough start to get the results I wanted but I have learnt a lot and will be prepared for the next race”.
